Willey Abstract

The historical Fan district is known for it's beautiful archectiture. High ceilings, crown molding, beautiful wood floors, the list goes on and on! High ceilings provide an opportunity to hang large abstract paintings!

Mollie and Mike Willey live on Park Avenue on a perfect storybook block. They needed a large painting for the top of their stairs. A focal point in their home.

We scheduled a consultation and I came over to their home to see their decor and colors. We talked about where they wanted to hang the painting and it's size.

Here I've taped off a 36x48" and a 36x36" to give Mollie and Mike a visual of what the art would look like on their wall. We decided the longer worked better with the steps. Also, instead of one large canvas, a triptych would work best to break up the vast space. From their decor we were able to determine the color palette I would use.

Here is the finished painting in my studio! Time to take it to the Willey Family!!

I love when clients are as excited as I am about a painting delivery! The best assistant ever, my husband, Rob helped me show them on the wall.

Waiting on the professionals to hang them!

Finished! What a difference original art makes on the wall! I am so pleased with how it turned out! Thank you, Mollie and Mike for this commission!! xoxo

Dixon Abstract

Walking into Alison Dixon's Monument Avenue home tells you how much she loves color. And also that she is a very talented interior designer. She commissioned me to paint something to go above her mantle in the front parlor of her house.

Plein Air at the Spring Market

Last time I plein aired was in February. And, before that it was this fall. So, I figured I'd be a bit rusty. Since I'd be inside the at the Spring Market, I wasn't quite sure what I would paint. I brought a house portrait and some other projects to work on just in case. After I set up I looked around and saw the hydrangeas and fern beautifully displayed at the front door, begging to be painted!

I brought some of my paintings and set them up around my easel. Lots of people stopped by to talk to me. It was fun meeting everyone!

My finished painting! Alice Siegel, the founder of the Bizarre Bazaar (Spring Market- she is standing to the left of me) loved my painting and purchased it right on the spot! It was a great morning, I loved getting back into plein air.:-)

When I'm not "feeling creative"

"Spring On My Mind" 16x20" Oil on canvas with copper leaf, Available for purchase

This past week I had such a list of commissions to get done! And I've been battling an awful cold. I feel terrible for not getting in my studio, but I simply am not able. On Tuesday I tried and ended up with a muddy mess of a painting. Especially with my new abstracts, I can not force my creative juices to flow. Fixing up my website and posting a blog entry have helped me feel a little more productive! For now I'm going to stop feeling guilty, take some cold medicine and go to bed. Here's to feeling better soon!

Texas Beach, James River Plein Air

Today was an unusually warm day for February. I couldn't resist collecting my plein air supplies and getting outside! I am always looking for new spots to paint along the James River. Texas Beach is near Maymont and is a great place for a walk, in warmer weather, a swim and definitely to paint! When spring comes and the beautiful greenery returns I look forward to coming back.
