The Homestead Plein Air

This is from the second day I was at the Homestead Resort. I painted the horse stables the first day and was not expecting to get to paint twice on this trip!:)

The Stables at The Homestead Plein Air

We returned to the Homestead Resort for a quick weekend trip celebrating my mother-in-law's birthday. It was a beautiful morning in Hot Springs, but chilly! While my family went for a guided hike I took a little hike myself. (which is tricky with all my supplies!) I took a walk to the stables and decided to set up in front of this horse pasture.

I worked and reworked on this painting but could not make it work without a proper focal point. Even adding the horses in I left feeling like it is still missing something. I love the subject and experience so it will definitely get some studio attention.

Monument Avenue Plein Air

This fall morning I pack up my paints and walked down to the Robert E. Lee Monument. I must have walked around that monument 3 times trying to decide on a spot and which direction would be the easiest to draw. I knew there was no such thing, but I like to think of it as my process.;) Drawing has never been my strength, but after much use of my eraser I got the general drawn. 3 hours later he was finished and I felt very proud of stepping out of my painting comfort zone.

A Special Backyard

I signed up for a plein air workshop to paint in the backyard of the Richmond Symphony Designer House. (http://www.rsol.org/events-pineapple/about-pineapple-acre.html) It was a grey rainy day, but the grounds still looked beautiful. This shed was transformed into a small boutique and I thought it was a perfect corner to paint.

James River Plein Air

On the last day of summer Rob, Witten and I decided to spend it at the James River. To get to our spot, we had to cross part of the river. I'm willing to do whatever it takes for that perfect painting!;)

Rob and Witten had a blast riding the rapids while I painted.

Beach Plein Air

It was a beautiful morning in Southern Shores of the Outer Banks! I set up my beach chair and practiced my plein air skills. The beach and painting... it doesn't get better than this!

Meet Bleu

I love to receive emails like this from my customers!

"Hi Courtney,
Laura just sent me a picture of Bleu. I shed a few happy tears. The painting is absolutely stunning. You captured our sweet exactly how we remember him. Your painting is better than the photo!

Thank you so much for doing this for us. This will forever be something we cherish."

The Creek at The Homestead Plein Air

We are spending a long summer weekend at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA. Just walk around the grounds and every turn is an artist's dream. Beautiful landscapes full of flowers, creeks and rolling mountains in the background. I got to spend 2 mornings there painting plain air. I was in heaven! A series is sure to follow this painting. Homestead fans stay tuned...:-)

Rum Point

This is Rum Point in Grand Cayman. It's one of my favorite places.

There's this dock that stingrays swim under.

The snorkeling is fantastic.

Lots of fun things around.

Just a great place to relax and enjoy island time.

And the best part? Mudslides!

So many inspiring views everywhere!
